I recently bought a 2015 ST1300. And today I picked up a gear indicator. It says it needs to be connected to the Data Link Connector and is compatible with my bike, but it doesn't provide a drawing or pic of the right connector and where it is. To add to my confusion my bike was a police bike and there are a lot of disconnected wires and harnesses which were formerly connected to the police equipment. Thanks for any help.20221102_082926.jpg

The data link/diagnostic connector is red and is under the passenger seat along the right side of the bike. It will be hard to see because it will be covered in electrical tape and taped to the wiring harness if it has never been disturbed before. There should be a black protective cover over it if it has not been removed by someone. It looks like the below.

That's the beastie! I installed a similar indicator and it's been working great for me 99% of the time. I mounted the GPI inside my instrument housing to the left of the LCD display to keep it out of the elements. That necessitated lengthening the cable and inserting a multipin connector up inside the fairing so in the event I needed to get remove the instrument pod I didn't have to open it up to extract the GPI or fish the cable out the length of the motorcycle. During my run to NEW-STOC this past June it stopped working and wasn't until I got home and pulled the upper cowl for other reasons that I was able to reseat the connector and get it working again.

Here's my write up from March 2021

Hey! that's my picture too! @Andrew Shadow :) :)

On my bike, the connector was wrapped with black tape tightly to the harness and was indistinguishable because it was completely covered. The bulge gave it away - squeezing will differentiate it from the wire bundle.

Any advise on getting the connector cover off (the one on the bike itself). Can't seem to figure it out.
