I am interested in adding cruise control to my ST1300, 2005 non ABS. I have seen discussions from back in 2008. I would like to know what type of equipment I should investigate. Any assistance is welcomed.

Rostra cruise control kit are is the comon electronic one mostly used, pricey. There are a number of throttle lock options.

Expensive but excellent quality, support and installation instructions - MCCruise -

How expensive it is depends a lot on the value of the AUD vs USD.
I have them on all 4 of my ST1100s and they work as well as any 'factory' cruise out there.

I have a throttle lock now. It slowly backs off. I have tightened it with no real improvement. I will check out the Rostra. Thank You!

Thanks, I will look into finding a unit.

McCruise is plug and play, it comes with all the bits to make it work. Plus excellent support. The Rostra is an automotive unit, you will need to source some items, like the switch gear. Rostra sells one but it’s pricey. You might be able to adapt the switch gear from a GL 1500 GoldWing. You will need to adapt the wiring and make connectors. If you have LED lights in any of your brake lights or top box you will need to wire in a relay. There’s no support from Rostra.
Having said that, there are threads on this forum on how to install the Rostra. It’s a weekend project, I have installed the Rostra unit on two ST1100s and a Suzuki VStrom. You need to be comfortable splicing wires, making mechanical connections to the throttle body.
The Rostra unit will cost half as much as McCruise but will take you three times as long to install.
Is it worth it? It most certainly is! No matter which one you choose. Best farkle I have put on a bike.

Another vote for McCruise. Best cruise I've ever had. Expensive, yes. You have to decide if its worth it or not. It is for me...I do long distance rides. I also got their speedo corrector, and now my speedometer is accurate.

I have a throttle lock that doesn't slowly back off. Adjusted once in a blue moon it stays put. But — it's not a cruise control in the common sense of the word. I've liked reading about the McCruise but it's overkill for my needs. I've had three cars with cruise control and I only used it occasionally in one of them. So I'm good with a throttle lock as others are with a cruise control. Good luck with your endeavor.

I installed a Rostra (250-1223) on my '96 "CB750ST" years ago, before I got my first ST1100.

I used a Trailtech 8500-RS switch pod for accel, decel, and cancel; no power switch.

New kid on the block with positive initial reviews that is less than half the price of McCruise. They don't currently have systems for any motorcycles controlled by throttle cables, so no ST1300 kit available. Send them a request. If there are enough requests for a system for the ST1300 maybe they will consider it.

Canadian pricing- Viridian Cruise
US pricing- Viridian Cruise

Andrew, I fear that their engineering expertise and business model is in tapping into the ECU, brain, or whatever, of throttle-by-wire systems and direct the actuation of the physical throttle mechanisms using pre-existing components.
I doubt a cable interface and all the myriad variations they'd need to source, test and maintain stocke are of interest to them. Too bad. :(

I appreciate all the input. The bike has olny 60K miles. I love my bike. I plan on keeping it. After a lot of highway riding the last two years, I was either going to install cruise or get a new bike with cruise. In the US, the ST is no longer ofered new.

The good thing about the MCCruise is you are not cutting wires, fabbing parts or stuff like that - mine came with everything down to the zip ties.
Installation instructions are very detailed with lots of pictures for the particular bike.
Everything electrical pigtails in (at least for the ST1100) and for the ST1100 they have the CIU that deals with the cables (may be the same for the ST1300, IDK).
Diagnostics are built in if you ever have issues making it easy to resolve them.

Their system appears to work with electronic throttle bodies only.

I doubt it as well simply because it is so much easier and cheaper to develop a cruise control system for a throttle-by-wire set-up.
However, they have already received at least some requests inquiring about the ST1300 as it appears on their request page. Maybe if there were more requests they might be inclined to give it some consideration. I am inclined to doubt that however. From a business perspective they would probably consider it to be to much investment for a very small ST1300 market is my guess.
