So after 2 seasons of riding using my Pixel buds as my source of music and listening to my buddy bitch at me for not having a Bluetooth headset I finally gave in and decided to inquire about one. I have mostly resisted them as I usually ride alone, no one hardy ever calls me especially if I'm out riding and the price tag.

Saturday was a real blah day and I had been wanting to go to the local Cycle Gear store. It's an hour drive on a good day and next to a very overbuilt Shopping mall. Traffic sucks all the time. Won't ride there either. Anyways, so when I finally got there I walked in and realized I really hadn't paid much attention to riding gear over the years. Brain overload.

Well as I fumbled around for like a hour looking cringing at the prices and drooling a nice older guy came up and asked if I needed help. So I said tell me about pants. He was really nice not pushy and spent easily 30 mins showing me choices. They I remembered hey tell me about headsets. I told him my price range really what I use it for blah, blah, blah. He showed me several choices a with the pants and again spent easily 30 mins talking about them. Well I got the Cardo Spirit HD as I was looking for a nice not lots of bells and whistles unit and this seemed to be a good choice.

So here is the begining of my review. Nick at the Schaumburg Cycle Gear Rocks. As for the Cardo I'm really happy with it so far.

I installed it in my Bell Qualifier DLX helmet after several tries. Mostly me trying to figure out how to run wires and securing them. I did end up cutting out a small channel in the check pad plastic that slips in to secure the pad. I still need to figure out what I'm doing with the extra wire and connectors I tried inside under a pad but I can feel that. Looking for a small case I can put them in and Velcro on the side.

Setting up the unit is fairly simple as I managed to do it. I'll start with the 2 issues I have so far and these are minor. Even though my helmet has ear phone accomodations the larger better earphones are just a smidge too thick. Which if you have good size ears can be a bit of a trick getting them unfolded. It takes a few head shakes. The other is at least in my helmet the front mic is really close to my mouth / chin.

Things I like so far. The sound is really much better than I would have expected. Even with slightly poof ear prices it doesn't mess with the comfort level. When I'm riding the controls are easy to find and use. I can only use this with one other Bluetooth headset! But I can have it hooked up to 2 other devices such as a GPS, phone or such. It's supposed to have almost a half mile range but I was told more like a third. The battery is supposed to give me 13 of active use time, I will let you know on that one. Like all newer units it can pair up with any other headset.

So far I would say I'm very pleased with the unit at the price point. I have a few upcoming rides so I will let you know how I like it after that.

I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold; I have to say that Cardo makes an incredible piece of tech. It fit my helmet so well, I hardly know it's there. The boom mike is something of a hassle at times with my modular helmet, but once we're in the down and locked position, the mike tucks away nicely. The "Next Song" command is great, as is the use of my phone at speed. My wife thought I was sitting in a parking lot when I called her doing 75 MPH on the freeway...
You made a good choice there...

Would this fit on an older Scala rider Q2 mount?

and is the mount and speaker/mike cord all one unit as on the older one? Would be nice to be able to remove the mount while leaving the speakers/mic in the helmet.

Not sure on the mount!

The speaker and mike cord do disconnect from the unit so you can take it with wthile leaving the speakers in.

It does come with 2 mic choices. A boom if you have a modular or open face helmet and a small round foam mic that sticks to the front of a full face helmet like mine.

Just an FYI this is the top teir in the entry level model for Cardo so if you have a higher end unit already you may find this a bit lacking in whizbangs.

you'll most likely have to replace the Scala riderQ2 mount and replace it with the Cardo mount

Review Update:

Well I have put in about 7 hours of use over the past 2 days. I am still happy with the unit. They claim 13 hours of continuous use. I have put in 6 so far and I'm at 50 percent battery so probably pretty close. The phone works well and people can actually hear me so that is a bonus. I am happy with the nav voice, it's plenty load and turns down the music while talking. I use my phone for navigation, I have heard the voice can be a bit quiet when using a separate nav system.

Downside: The foam speaker is just thick enough to make my ears fold over and not flop back so I have to reach in and unfold it. Now once my ear is back to normal the comfort is very nice. The mouth speaker foam brushes against my beard which is kept short. It's annoying at times, probably more to do with my helmet. Tried several positions found one that mostly works. The FM radio works. That is what I will say about that. LOL.

I have not had a chance to talk with anyone over the comm yet

Need a bit more time to have a solid conclusion but, like JD Powers I would rank it high in initial customer satisfaction.

I have two options for the charge life.
The Cardo will still work when it's plugged in to a USB charger. I keep two Pocket Juice power supplies on the bike.
One is bright pink, the other bright turquoise, so I know which one I've used.
A USB cable going from my pocket to my helmet will keep me powered up for 24 hours with basic use.
I also have a USB converter with two ports that plugs into an SAE plug going to my battery, in my left hand fairing compartment.
I can keep the Pocket Juice power supplies charged via the spare USB port in the fairing pocket also...
When the I'm not using the USB converter, my tender plugs into it; however, with that arrangement, I can run both my SatNav, and use the other lead for the Cardo.
It'll run forever in that configuration. Much longer than you'd spend on the bike in one go.
The Pocket Juice's will also work as an Auxiliary phone charger. They each carry two full charges for your phone...
Sometime in the next few weeks, I'll run a USB cable to my new tank bag from the fairing pocket so I'll be able to keep my phone charged...
The way things are going here in Oregon, I should just go out and buy pontoons for the bike...
Oh, and I also keep a black Pocket Juice in my purse and short USB cables for older and newer Android phones, my 10" tablet, and even though I have never owned one, an IPhone, just incase someone I'm riding with needs it. (Yes, I carry a small leather messenger bag purse, for several reasons two of them medical) so I usually have three on me when I'm riding...
Feel free to ask what else I have in my purse, you might be surprised...

Thanks for the charge option. I wasn't really complaining mostly confirming that the battery life seems to o be a claimed. Plus I really have no urge to ride to 12 hours in one day.
