2004 ST1300
I've been browsing this site for a few weeks now - lots of great info! I'm pretty much sold on an ST1300 and on the look out for a relatively inexpensive one. I've seen mostly pre '07 bikes in the price range I'm hoping for. Are there any particular years that are better than others for some reason? Thanks!

Well, as luck would have it, in 2008 they made some minor changes to the front caliper and some other relatively minor stuff... nothing mind-blowing by any means. All ST1300s are pretty much identical and you just have to make sure you keep up the maintenance and ride it... they hate to sit still.. lol

Welcome aboard!

In those years there is really only one difference besides color - the 2003 non ABS did not have the electric adjustable windshield. 2003 ABS bikes did have it.

Check for a bike with low mileage and make sure you either can get the service records from the PO or have a competent mechanic check it out. All models after the '03 have the adjustable windshield. For me, that is a great advantage. Once you make your purchase, change all the fluids and tighten the hose clamps on the cooling system hoses. Changing fluids would flushing out the brake and clutch systems and adding new fluid.

Thanks. I actually found an '03 with apparently only 8,700 miles on it. That actually worries me more than a 75k one that I looked at!

I thought I saw that somewhere. Thanks for the confirmation.

I agree... I would stay away from anything with less then 30k on it ... and I'd stick to the 04-07 range just so you get an adj shield and abs.

Were the 2010 through 2012 models all black in the US?

Ive had two, I prefer the Silver color because it hides scratches and dirt so well.
Welcome, your gonna love the bike no matter what color you get.

Thanks for all the info. Got a chance to look at a couple side-by-side at a local shop. It looks like risers are a must for me. Besides that, I'm sold. Just need to look at some of the others available, and there are quite a few.

I used to own an 03 with almost 150k-miles. This bike keeps running like a horse for somewhat high (mid) milages it got. I rode this bike for 11 years did my own maintenance. Though, I have to rebuild the water pump for a couple of times of which it's very easy to do. That's the only major works I had done to it. Otherwise save-up the amounts of cash for tires...! Tips. Though, nowadays I ride 07 FJR1300 picked up as used 10 years old with 15K-miles before Xmas of 2016. Now it got almost 53K-miles on my 3rd summer..!

Get a red one, they're faster. ;)

We even have a pic of one on this forum as a mark of respect... :rd11:

Also starting with the 2008 model year you can get the ST1300 in any colour you want as long as it is black. Obviously Candy Graceful Red is the fastest colour though.

Not a big deal but I think that the black (after 06) started in 09 like mine. I almost bought a Canadian red 08 in grimsby which was brighter than the 05. The older red was nicer

I'm thinking you should look at the 08 on the for sale page. O8 for sale
With very little creativity you can get your iron butt challenge out of the way on trip home.
