Well, I was on my way home tonight and noticed smoke coming out of the Vistra Energy battery storage facility a couple of miles from my office. The fire now has grown into a huge blaze and it can be seen for many miles. It appears that the 750 MW lithium storage unit is on fire again. This is the third major fire in this facility over the last few years. The fire department can't do anything at this point other than watch it burn and make sure it does not spread outside the facility. There is a lot of toxic smoke drifting north and evacuations and road closures have started. This is supposedly the largest energy storage facility in the world.

Latest - Surprised this did not make national news

Of course not. They don't want the public to worry about these battery storage facilities, knowing they are fire hazards!

Near where my son lives in SoCal, there is a battery storage facility that has had at least one fire!

A quick look at google, and the story was on CNN, AP, NPR, USA Today, MSN, KSBW (Monterey), and a bunch of other stations. None of these are national, right @bdalameda?

Isn’t it nice that all these tree huggers are going to electric vehicles because they are so much better for the earth? :rofl1:

When I read the first post here last night, I went to google to see if I could find out more. Google yielded zero results as of about 8:30 or so my time (MST). All that came up was the fires at the one in Texas a couple of years ago.

I'm a tree hugger I guess myself; we're working pretty hard with contractors who now and then forget to not drive over the roots of trees behind our house. Every now and then we have to have meaningful discussion on the subject. We started with these four remaining and three on the other corner but the developer was successful in getting those destroyed. Sometimes you have to stand your ground but I never imagined having to do it for something a hundred times bigger and at least three times as old.
At the same time you appreciate there's some maintenance, these trees that we have require a lot of clean up. When you watch them in the wind though you know they're alive and worth keeping, if one should ever fall and crush any of my vehicles, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Average 228 oil refinery fires a year. There's one in Russia now that has been burning 5 days. Not so newsworthy as a lithium-ion battery fire....

Any numbers on how many EV’s (including their battery) went up in flames in LA.

At the cottage I had a septic system replaced about 8 years ago and then a bunch of french drains and landscaping done a year later. Two different contractors. After the equipment was unloaded and they were ready to begin work each guy turned to me and said "Let the destruction begin"..............

One thing I learned from contractors on excavating equipment is to literally stake out where you don't want them to go. You can talk all you want, but putting a physical barrier around trees is a visual reminder to stay away.

Before the project across our alley was started the city provided us with various documents regarding the city's good neighbor policy. To read it would be to imagine yourself enjoying the peaceful tranquility of your home throughout the three year construction period. Yeah... well this is the lower mainland and nobody gets any of that.
Initially they gave us some posts and yellow tape, guys would throw it in the trees and roll their trucks right over, then we'd argue, then they'd last a few days. It seemed to get a little better with the signs that I put up but still a problem. Finally the contractor came up with this solution last week which has been working for four days now!
