Best ST1300 windshield for me?

On my ol' ST1100, there was an adjustable lip on the top front of the screen. I 'overadjusted' it so the top came forwards loads. The result was wind noise almost stopped completely. This was achieved whilst the screen was low enough that I was definitely looking OVER it, not through.

On my 1300, it seem like I've got an original screen. I can only get the noise to stop when I put the screen up all the way and I'm looking through it, which I don't like. I also catch a lot more wind round the sides than I used to.

My questions are; Can I get a screen for my 1300 that pushes the wind over the top of me, silencing the wind noise (whilst looking over it, not through it)? Some kind of built in lip perhaps? I see Bike-quip do one with a lip and that is 4" wider. Would that be a good choice for me?

That might be a good choice for YOU, but just like women and beer tastes differ....definitely try to borrow a shield if you can...most of us have a few extras laying around because someone else's best shield wasn't the answer for us....good luck.........ff

I have the Bike-Quip shield and it works good for me, others like bigger shields. Good luck on finding one that works for you.

I've had one on my stock windshield for the past two years - with it, I leave the windshield down 95% of the time. I'm looking over it - not through.
The lip sends the airstream up and over your head.
The only times I raise the windshield is for cleaning, or in rain.
You won't regret it - worth every penny

Your gas mileage may drop if you use a bigger windshield, especially at freeway (and above) speeds. YMMV. (grin)

+1 on the 'different strokes for different folks'. Best to try one on someone else's bike at an ST event or decide to buy one and then sell it if it is not to your liking.

With the Laminar Lip, my gas mileage actually increased (slightly), which I believe is because I was no longer riding with the shield up - thus less wind drag.

I made my own "laminar lip" from 1/8" plexi, and used a heat gun to warm and bend it. It works very well to reduce wind noise. I have it down low enough to look over, and can hear tunage much better now. cost: about 9$. It took me two tries to get it right.

I like the phrase, 'None of your lip' but I might have to try one of these. I ride with my screen all the way up, looking through it, and my helmet's visor up (glasses on). This is not much different than riding w/ the screen down and my hat's visor closed (except it can get stuffy in my Schuberth). As said, I changed to a Calsci and it is marginally quieter w/ less buffeting (except behind semi's).

I like the wind protection and quiet behind the shield. How would you compare riding w/ the stock screen up without the Lip to riding with the screen down and with the lip? How about with the screen up w/ lip?
Compare all these at freeway (and above) speeds.

Does the Lip clamp to the stock screen or do you drill holes?

(My Lip is on a stock windscreen)
I leave the screen down nearly always, and usually ride with just sunglasses. I am comfortable at all speeds up to at least 90 like that.
Obviously sometimes a bug will get me, but not that often, most go up and over my head.
Before the lip, I was always frustrated at having to look thru the shield. Then I would lower it, but the wind would get annoying over 30 or so, so back up, etc....
With the Lip, I am able to leave the shield down almost always. Much prefer looking over the shield, which was not possible without the Lip.

The Lip attaches with special, velcro-like dots. These are made by 3M and very sturdy. No problems at all with them coming off (but I've never removed the Lip). Just be sure to follow the install instructions 100%.
You can drill and screw the Lip on, if you want, but I don't see the need - so far anyway.
