Hi everyone, New to the site i just bought a 06 ST couple weeks ago and Im now officially an ST'aholic!
First question is about a new seat. Im looking at Sargent, Richs in Seattle and Russell down in Lake Shasta CA.
Im a big guy at 6' 270lbs, and Im wondering about the Sargent seat supporting my big arse? Looks like the Russell would be the most supportive. Everyone seems to really like the Sargent for support and styling, but it would be holding up a lot of weight on my bike. Also I don't see hardly anything on the board about Richs in Seattle. Is Richs not favored among the sport bikes? Anyone with Sargent seats that are on the heavy side, let me know what you think?

I go about two bucks and the Russell does great for me. Can't speak for the other two. Don't think I've ever seen Rich's addressed on the board.

I'm 5' 8'' and 245 lbs and I found that the "Air Hawk" 14"X14'' pad works great for ME. Personally, I found the Russell & Sargent seats-(I've tried both seats from fellow ST riders and put them on my bike), but found that they were hard as a rock!!! Besides, now that I've ridden my '06 STeed for nearly 10 months, my butt actually got used to the stock seat on short trips without the Air Hawk pad. On longer hauls, I use the Air Hawk.
I saved approx $400-$500 bucks by not purchasing those seats. Then again, this is what works for me...

I am the same height and weight as you and have a sargent.

No problems at all and I really like mine. The biggest difference is the stock compresses too much after a couple of hours and you really begin to hurt.

The sargent is hard but comfortable and does not compress like the stock. I have done some really long miles without any issues.

The people here who have sent their seats to Spenser all have given him rave reviews so maybe try that first and if you find it did the trick then you have saved yourself quite a lot of money. If not then you can always order a different seat.

Spencers!!!!

Just got my seats back this last Thursday and rode for 5 hours yesterday.

What a difference! The added bonus is, the next morning (today!) my ars, lower back and legs don't ache. I am ready to do another easy 200 miles today!

Thanks Spencer:bow1:

Shipping sucks, UPS is slower than the second coming. I think they use coverd wagons drawn by oxen. Figure on 2 weeks no riding.

You won't be disappointed with a Sargent. Comfort is great on long trips and it has better styling than any other aftermarket seat plus some extras for storage.

Thanks for all the input! Think I'll send my seat to Spencer, and try out his mucho raved modifications first. If that doesn't work for me, I won't have lost too much. But everyone seems to think it does the trick. Im so glad I found this site with a great amount of info and support, makes riding the bike even more satisfactory.:poPoST1:

You got it brother..

A 2 pronged approach...spencer first..make sure you let him know your body type etc..it will probably help him tailor the seat to you..good luck and post the outcome..

Ok, after a few planned trips before Memorial Day I've got some time to get the seat to Spencer. Spoke with him today and got it shipped off on FedEx. Supposed to be there in a week by ground, and I should have it back by June 13th, I hope. Will let you guys know what I think. In the meantime I'll ride the cruiser. :06biker:

I called Russell yesterday to reserve a production spot. They're into August for mail-in seats, and September for ride-in appointments. Looks like you have time to try the Spences mod... BTW - the guy at Russell was extremely helpful.

Ok, got the seat back from Spencer. Took about 16 days there and back, from Portland Oregon to Florida. Spencer got it turned around in 24hr. So far just done some short rides around town, and it feels great. Next long trip planned is Sturgis, :beer3: really looking forward to testing the seat for several hundred miles. So is my arse.....:butt1:
