I'm driving a lot at night, and therefore I'm looking for some auxiliary lights for my ST1300. Preferably LED, and with as much light as possible. But within limits of course. I'm not putting on a 4 ft ramp in the front or anything.

So, I'm hoping that someone have a recommendation or two when it comes to brands / models that's a "easy fit" on the ST1300? I would really like it if anyone had a picture or two with the lights mounted as well.

Thanks.

Here's an idea....

As for lights, there's lots out there, from $ to $$$. You first need to decide if you want a flood, a spot, or some of each. Some of that depends on what type of roads you drive on at night, and what speed.

As for how many, most folks go with 2-4 lights, mounted either over the mirrors or under. There are also ready made, bolt on brackets that can be bought for these - if you don't like my DIY method.

There's also the fork mounted lights many of us have done - the bi colored Z-moons.

Thank you. Absolutely looks like something to consider.

Mounting the lights is the easy bit, picking them is based on your pocketbook (for the most part) is a bit harder. The hardest part is the wiring and finding where to put the switch(es.)

The devil is in the details, as they say.

I can stretch quite far "price-wise". That's the least of my problems. But I would like the "most bang for the buck" without rebuilding the bike to look like a semi trailer.

I mentioned this in an unrelated thread:

I mounted a pair of these Amazon Lights (not shown below) to the Honda light brackets. They don't seem to be available right now but they are pretty bright.

I also installed a pair of these Zmoon lights from Amazon on the front wheel and they work pretty well, especially for the money.

Well, premier lights include:

(and the new player on the block: https://www.lonerider-motorcycle.com/products/motorcycle-lights )

If it was me, and $$ wasn't an option, my preference in order would be lone rider lights, then clearwater lights and then the denalis.

The + to clearwater is you can mix n max somewhat, so you could do a flood on one side and a spot on the other. That would give the light visual symmetry when looking at it, and both a flood for the ditches and a spot for down range.

As a starter though, before adding more extra lighting, have you upgraded your headlight bulbs to the LED's listed in the forum? This alone will make a HUGE difference. Just make sure you get the proper bulbs. Most will fit, but not all are designed to work with the 1300's reflector. You may get "more" light, but less usable light.

The headlight upgrade is the #1 thing you should do before adding more lights, in my opinion.

Try Ruby Moto LIghts https://www.rubymoto.com/

Not quite as bright as the Clearwaters but not nearly as expensive either. Clearwaters remain the gold standard, but they take all your gold.
Skene controllers are often used and switches can be had here: https://wingstuff.com/products/20158-black-led-accessory-switch These require no cutting or glueing on your bike and are convenient and attractive. Black or Chrome, two or three switch choices.

Denali D2 are a great choice, pricy but last for years, well made kit.

I used Motorcycle Larry mirror adapters, no longer trading but you might get lucky on eBay…

I have Clearwater Ericas on one ST and Denali D7Pros on two of my Valks. These two are comparable in light output and FAR exceed ANY of the cheap lights I've ever used.

Why not hanging them off the crash bars? Maybe just cut a little from plastic that covers it

Sure, then your expensive lights can double as crash bars. Not to mention that lights for conspicuity can go low, but lights to help you see need to be high and wide.

There's no real safe place on the bile to put the lights on. Maybe on the sides of the front cowl will be safer but even there it's questionable.

The strongest and best are the MCL under mirror brackets or the over the mirror police brackets. On the forks is unspring weight and the brackets will eventually fail, and if by "sides of the cowl" you mean screw them to the plastic, you'll be picking up bits of cowl in short order. I have some homemade brackets that bolt to the frame that come out of the cowl in the "finned" area by the engine head. Those are bulletproof but perhaps not deer-proof.

Clearwater lights are a fav of the BMW crowd in the states. If they are popular over there, you might look for a BMW club. No doubt you will be able to see the lights on a bike before you buy them.

The ST1300 police brackets are in stock at Web!ke for ~$50 (£42) each plus shipping... I'm thinking of buying a pair for my CanukPan...

88900MCSA30 and 88800MCSA30 are your part numbers. You''l need longer bolts, too: 2x 960010605000 and 2x 960010604000

Enjoy!!
