I lost a mirror in a crash and have been considering alternatives like bar-end, mounted to m/c, or whatever else is out there.

I'm curious if anyone else has tried one of the aftermarket options and how well it worked. I'm wondering how much vibration they transmit and how good the image in the mirror is.

any comments appreciated,

thanks,

Doug

I have never had a set of mirrors work so perfectly as the ones on the 1100. The position and view is spot on.

The 1300 tries to mirror that acheivement ;) but it doesn't quite make it - with parts of the lever creeping into view - and always a part of the ball end reflecting where ever the sun is. I resorted to painting my ball ends black.

If it is just the glass, you can get that cut - even with the slight concave face - so you might be able to restore it with a breaker's yard part and a new glass. Depending on what has been damaged.

Yep, one of the many points on my list... ;)

German eBay dealer offers ST1100 spare mirror glasses in spherical, a-spherical and 2-part... IIRC € 26,- each...
Never changed a glass though, but the combined wisdom here states that hot water will soften the black plastic frame for proper installation...
Plus that I've a NOS set in storage...

Or a heat gun judiciously used ... ;)

I started a thread a few weeks ago about alternative types of mirrors for the ST 1300,

not only because one of my mirrors had been damaged in a crash,

but I didn't like how closely the mirrors are placed to the bike's body,

which makes it difficult to see past my own torso, arm, and shoulder when I'm riding and want to look more or less straight behind me in my own lane.

I would prefer the mirrors to be 6 inches out further, even if that means they are less aerodynamic.

I have not taken any action on this and another forum member, AniWack, has repaired my motorcycle's mirror and turn signal, so it's not such a pressing issue anymore.
