We drink very moderately. I am diabetic, with kidney disease..however, we still enjoy the occasional drink.
In the summer we enjoy gin and tonic..Gin from the Shetland Islands, Raasay Gin, Edinburgh Gin and Bombay Sapphire are all available, with Fever Tree tonic.
In the winter we enjoy a wee dram of single malt Scotch - never a blended malt.
There is usually a small glass of wine for dinner..right now we are enjoying something from Montepulciano..a nice, fat red.

Once I'm done chemo plan to celebrate by going to my local pub for Steak and prawns, a good strong Drink, haven't had one for over a year. Cheers

I'm not much of a drinker; alcohol doesn't taste good to me. Beer is the worst; dark beer is tolerable.

If I'm drinking, I'll order a Long Island iced tea, or a fruity drink of some kind, and one is normally it.

I previously enjoyed my beer, but as it bloats me up and I wanted to lose weight in the past 2+ years, I have cut back substantially (like 2 beers in the past year). I miss it but I don’t at the same time. I was never one for the hard stuff.

I discovered when I was 19 that I wasn't any good at drinking.... got dizzy, fell down, threw up. Never enjoyed the taste anyway. TO ME all beer taste's the same..... like beer.... and to me alcohol tastes like lamp fluid. So, as a result, I basically haven't had an alcoholic drink since the late 60's. (just a sip when someone insists their beer doesn't taste like other beers...hint: yes it does!)

My wife doesn't drink either, but her family is German Catholic, and it always amazed me how they could drink so much beer, from morning to night at family gatherings, and act, walk and speak perfectly normally. BYOB in her family means Bring Your Own Barrel lol

For what it is worth I heard a beer expert on the radio who stated that if beer makes a person feel bloated it is because they are not drinking it properly. He also stated that North Americans drink their beer much to cold. I agree with that one. If I take a beer out of the fridge and drink it right away when it is very cold it has much less taste than when it has warmed up a little.

I remember him stating that, depending on the type of beer, it should be consumed at a temperature of between the high 40's to mid 50's degrees F. It varies based on the type of beer. Lager, ale, etc., all have a different recommended best temperature.
Beer should never be drunk from a bottle or a can. It should be poured in to a glass and left to sit for several minutes before consuming it. The larger opening of the glass provides a larger surface area to allow more of the gas to escape, which is beneficial because the gas is what causes the bloated feeling.
It was an hour long show and the above is all that I can recall.

I still just grab one from the fridge and drink it from the bottle. Having to think about it and follow a process before consuming it takes away the desire of having it.

Ah, Montepulciano.... that is a red we like proven by the photo just taken  We were actually in Montepulciano in June last year on our way down to Rome. Stayed in a nice Albergo just outside the town and nearly killed ourselves walking up to the town, It was a really steep and long climb. You can just make out our bike in the hotel car park in a photo taken of the Albergo taken from half way up back to the town. It's a beautiful place!

At home when inside I always drink beer out of the glass, if outside and a neighbour stops by we always drink out of the can. There are some bars where it seems safer to drink directly out of the can or bottle but mostly I drink draught beer when at a bar/restaurant. We don’t drink a lot usually buy 8 cans of local craft beer to take home and that will take me through a month in the winter but in the summer it’ll be a half that time.

I fluctuate between vodka, rum, and bourbon drinks, though I am currently backing off it all. Used to drink beer but it is too filling for me. Last real beer I had was upt's Newcastle recommendation last summer when we were on our cruise. Tasty but a very big bottle.

Ask me if I drink from a mug, bottle, or can? I don't give a s**t. True, some are better poured but I'm no connoisseur or snob. If you put it in my hand, I'll likely drink it...except Sierra Pale Ale and Heineken. Yuck.

You sound like me! I have always disliked beer! wine tastes foul! Long Island iced tea is a very good drink, but expensive and not consistent, My go to is usually a bourbon and coke (Jim Beam please) and one is plenty. When out to dinner and everyone is having "drinks" I will usually be the one with Sweet Tea (non-acholic southern iced tea for those that don't know).

Funny you should post this as I'm enjoying a few shots its what we call scotch here in the USA. My favorites are Glenlivet Tomatin and Glenfidich 12 year single malts. But you don't have to twist my arm because I won't turn down a shot of other12 year old single malts.

Years back stopped at a bar in Havana IL to get a drink after a very hot day of riding. All the bar stools were bolted to the floor and they served drinks in plastic cups, tough joint. :box1:

[edited] During the horrible beer strikes in the 80s we were introduced to American Beer, you ever have that?.. Actually, the first time was the late seventies, we'd get a flat of it from the Strathcona Hotel in Edmonton and sip on it through our shift. Later on, I took a chiller course in Milwaukee and lo and behold there was a pub in the hotel where you could get Miller Genuine Draft on tap for two dollars and twenty five cents [American] and my gosh was that ever good.
American Cokes were twelve ounces, beer was good and cigarettes didn't taste like formaldehyde. I miss Milwaukee..
And the architecture; walking around seeing the buildings wish I had a camera.

Those kind of places you ask for the bottle only so you have a potential weapon handy.

Reminds me of the Roselind and the Klondiiker where before the downsizing of the bars the bikers and the airborne would drink on their respective sides. I remember one time when I had my 64 chev half ton my buddy's girlfriend's brother [well, you get an idea where this is going] who was a native and maybe the toughest guy I've ever met, just got out of jail asked me to drive him to the Rosalind, on the way, and upon his insistance, we shared a very large bottle with a tassle on it. When we got there, for whatever reason, he needed to go into the bar.
He was not a big guy, but I have never seen three thousand guys stop and get quiet all at once and I probably never will again.

I confess to being astounded. There are other folk out there who simply do not like the taste of alcohol. I usually find myself in the company of guys who will down drink after drink. My screen name came about because two friends and I got together to buy another friend a bottle of Glenfarclas 25 - a single malt scotch whisky - for his birthday. When we presented the bottle - I kid you not, there were tears in his eyes and he insisted on inviting us to his house to taste it. He poured, and tasted - swished it around in his mouth and swallowed. The expression of pleasure on his face was exactly as I'd remembered on my father's face many years before when he drank whiskey. Rick tasted next, he clearly liked the whiskey, but his face was not as relaxed with pleasure. Jay swallowed his drink, and I thought he could have been drinking any old liquid. My turn, and I thought this expensive smsw tasted worse than stale turpentine after it had been used to clean a dozen brushes and dissolve the oil stain on a garage floor. Next we were poured my friend's 12 year whiskey. I understand what it means a whiskey is smooth - the 25 went down my throat warming me as it flowed. The 12 burned hot all the way down. I also get the peaty flavor and other tastes that come out...but I simply do not like the taste. Nothing more, nothing less. On many occasions, I have envied friends who really enjoy the taste of beer, wine, and various hard liquors, but I do not.
