• Start with a City beginning with A
    • This is BY STATE
    • Similar to the Tag contest, there will be one thread per state
    • Post a picture of your bike AND some sign, building etc which clearly shows the city/state you're in
    • The next person posts from a city with the name beginning with B, then C, D, etc
    • You can't posts back-to-back pics, you have to wait for a person to post the next city
    • Once Z is reached, the game starts over with A
    • If your state doesn't have a city beginning with the next letter in sequence, it's okay to skip that letter
    • If the location sits for more than one month, the person that posted that is open to move it to the next letter.

The World Wide game is a bit different as it is by whatever is considered a geographic type of regional category, state/province/village etc. and all those will be in the single World Wide A-Z topic.

AL: A to Z (Round 3)

And there is still a Camden in Alabama, or maybe another one.

We go through it every December on the way to Stagecoach RTE.

Rule 68 move with the Queen Beauty sign for a Q. I did like the looks of the Aqua Jerry 3 pcs curls but the OT PURPLE was just not my color. Monoreville BAMA so you know it's in the state.

Rule link below. Man I like this rule, now the Q X and Z letters are the easiest not the hardest.

Tanner For A T -

Tanner AL.jpg

A bit of History (some quite sad to me) -

Tanner was settled along the Louisville and Nashville Railroad in the 19th century and was originally named McDonald's Station, then Rowland. A Rowland post office was established in 1878. In 1913, the Tanner post office was established, named after Samuel Tanner who was the first mayor of nearby Athens.

On April 3, 1974, two violent stovepipe tornadoes that were both one-third of a mile in width hit the community within 30 minutes during the early nighttime hours. Both tornadoes were rated F5 on the Fujita Scale (winds of over 200 mph). After the first tornado passed through the area, a second tornado surprised the rescue effort. In total, 50 were killed by the violent tornadoes.

On April 27, 2011, Tanner and other surrounding communities were hit by a large EF5 tornado. The wedge tornado, which was over 1 mile (1.6 km) wide, killed 4 people in Limestone County and 72 people overall. It was the deadliest tornado in Alabama history and the third F5 or EF5 tornado to strike Tanner and the surrounding communities in Limestone County.

And To Finish This Round, The World Famous Zip City For A Z -

Z For Zip City AL.jpg

The History -

The first non-indigenous settlement was made at Zip City in 1817.
Zip City received its unusual name from the fact drivers would "zip" through town heading towards the Tennessee state line,
where they could buy alcohol.

The name dates from the 1920s.

Ardmore For An A -

Ardmore AL.jpg

A bit of history -

The Louisville and Nashville Railroad began building a direct line between Nashville and Decatur in 1911. The settlement was originally named Austin, after Alex Austin. Austin served construction crews working on the nearby railroad from his local store. When the first railroad opened a depot in Austin in 1914, the railroad named it Ardmore and the town changed its name to follow suit. The town is split by the Alabama-Tennessee state line.

Elgin Crossroads For E -
Elgins Crossroads AL.jpg

A lot of History -

Settlement of this area began in the early 1800s. Gabriel Butler settled approximately two miles northwest of here on Bluewater Creek. His name is found on the 1810 petition for removal of white settlers leasing land on Chief Doublehead’s Reserve. Gabriel Butler built a Baptist Church on his property which is believed to be the first church in the area. Other early landowners were John Bradford, Daniel White, Walter West, Robert Jackson, Aristides Jackson, Benjamin Ingram, George Ingram, and Moses Ingram. Huntsville Road (Highway 72) and Bellevue Road (Highway 101) was an important intersection. Huntsville Road was a major route from Chattanooga through Florence to Memphis. Bellevue Road led from a natural port on the Tennessee River called Dutch Landing, north to the Military Road near Loretto, Tennessee. Both roads brought much-needed supplies to the early settlers of Elgin and provided routes for them to sell and trade their farm goods. This community has been known as Ingrams Crossroads, Crittendens Crossroads, Crossroads, Elgin Crossroads, and Elgin. The first post office, named Marmion, was established in 1836 and renamed Ingrams Crossroads in 1949. The Ingram home was located just north of this intersection. Benjamin, George, and Moses Ingram are listed on the 1850 census as merchants. During the Civil War, Ingrams Crossroads served as a recruiting station for the Confederate States of America. Men enlisted into the 27th Alabama Infantry, 7th Alabama Cavalry, 9th Alabama Cavalry, and the 14th Alabama Infantry. Ingrams Crossroads Post Office was abandoned in 1868. The community was then referred to as Crittendens Crossroads until 1901 when a post office was re-established and given the name Elgin Post Office in honor of Elgin, Illinois. Although this post office closed in 1905, the name Elgin has remained. The first Crossroads School was located here. It was a one-room structure built in the late 1800s. In 1917, a three-room school was built about 300 yards south of here on land given by F.E. Jackson to J.H. Belew. In 1939, four additional adjoining acres were donated by E.M. Jackson. In 1942, the Works Progress Administration completed a brick school here named Crossroads School, later renamed Elgin Elementary School. The school closed in 1985.

Grassy For G -
Grassy AL.jpg

A little history -

Grassy, also known as Arthur or New Salem, is an unincorporated community in Lauderdale County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is concentrated around the intersection of State Route 64 and County Highway 89, east of Lexington, northwest of Anderson, and just south of the Tennessee border. Grassy took its name in the 1870s from the local Grassy School; the school was so named for the condition of its grassy schoolyard. A post office operated under the name Arthur from 1886 to 1907. Grassy Memorial Chapel, which lies near the center of the community, was established in 1894 as the New Salem Presbyterian Church. The chapel and its associated cemetery became the property of the Grassy community in 1976.
