1996 ST1100
I have a questions for all the great thinkers out there, I am buying a 1996 Honda ST1100, I am looking for a way to add an am/fm reciever to the bike, so i can listen to the radio while riding (dont want to miss my rugby or my cricket), but i dont particularly want to put speakers on the bike. does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to be able to send to Rider and Pillion, can you use cb comms system already on the bike? i will go speakers if i have to, just looking at my options.

Cheers

Graham

There are a number of ways to do it playing a portable MP3/Radio connected to an intercom system

Myself, I have a police radio pocket in the left hand fairing pocket, in which is a Radio/MP3 player (the type fitted to a car) which plays through the Autocom Duo system to rider and pillion. When either one talks (VOX) it automatically cuts the music sound down so you can hear each other.

Does the bike have an Autocom unit (seems to be the unit of choice in your area)? If so, with the proper cabling you should be able to play the radio through the headsets (assuming you have them). Since the ST1100 was never designed for a radio, you may have some electrical interference in the radio. I play a MP3 player which has a FM Radio built in through my Valk CB unit and the FM seems to work fine.

i think that is the brand that is on it, i read somewhere you can put a dampener in the line so that you dont get that interference

Depending on which model of Autocom, you should just need a cable to go into the aux audio port. Kieth (the spelling is correct), who is on this board, is the Autocom wizard to know exactly what cable and what else you would need. Most of the Autocom aux audio cables come with a 'choke'/dampener built into them for interference.

Howdy Graham - down here in Sydney - use a GME GR100 (latest model I think is a GR200) - had maybe 3 years - excellent on FM and quite good on AM - however run a GME antenna on back of bike - range is nearly as good as a car radio if you use the antenna - GME's are local Australian made - run it thru a starcom bluetooth to our helmets - they are a marine radio, no water issues at all - send a PM if you would like more info - Paul

I have just installed the Jensen 910 on my ST last fall. I have only about 500 miles riding with it, and so far, I agree with all of the assessments in the Web Bike World article you linked above. It is easy to use. The AM, FM & WB all work well. I have it hooked up through my J&M CB intercom unit, and use that as the master volume control. All of this plays to my helmet speakers for both rider and pax.

I have a small gremlin with engine/alternator noise in the AM band, but I am not through working on that yet. (winter time here takes me out of the bike fixing loop).

I would highly recommend the Jensen as an option for AM, FM or WB. Good Luck.
