Hello All:

I'm preparing to replace the brake fluid in both the front and rear systems of my 2001 Canadian-spec ABS equipped ST 1100.

After having reviewed the various discussions here in the forum, and looked at the service manual, I see that there are two types of ABS ST 1100 motorcycles - one with Linked Brakes and ABS (LBS-ABS) and one with only ABS.

How do I determine which system my motorcycle has?

Michael

1996 and later models that have ABSII are linked brakes.

Pre 1996 have 2 pot calipers, both ABS and non-ABS. 1996 and later ABSII have 3-pot calipers, non-ABS has 2-pot calipers.

Thanks Phil, much appreciated.

I'm going to go into Casablanca tomorrow and try to find some 5mm inside diameter hose to use while bleeding.

Round up the usual suspects.

I'm shocked, shocked to learn that gambling is taking place at Rick's.

Louie, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.

Who says, out loud and on purpose, “I’m going into Casablanca tomorrow”... Lol!

“Hey honey, going to Costco, need anything”?!

Nope, doesn’t have the same ring!

PS Again, colour me jealous, Michael :)

Apparently it is a real challenge to find the shop in Casablanca (the one and only Honda dealer in Morocco) - to get there, because of the very small, narrow, winding, one-way streets in the medina / kasbah, you need to set up 3 different GPS waypoints and then approach the navigational challenge as if you were flying an instrument approach. Tim Cullis, who is widely known as the most trusted advisory on Moroccan motorcycle travel, describes how to find the dealer in his post here: Moto Plus for bike spares in Morocco

I haven't made it up north to Casablanca yet - I found the clear hose I needed and DOT 4 brake fluid in a souk in a small town in the south, and today I will change the clutch slave cylinder. Sometime in the coming week, I'll work my way up north, and hopefully get a new set of tires at Moto Plus.
