In May of 2018 I purchased a new 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT. It’s been a fantastic motorcycle! I’ve really come to enjoy the DCT. Although I usually manual shift with the paddle-shifters. The GPS could be better and in the storage capacity is small, considering this is a touring motorcycle. The storage capacity was increased with the more current models.

I’m on my third set of tires. With this new set, I’m experiencing the dreaded front end wobble, immediately after leaving the dealership. I went back to the dealership and requested they recheck the balancing of the tire. They concluded the tire was in balance and said my front fork head gasket needed adjustment or repairs. Sorry, I don’t remember exactly what he said.

When I brought the bike in for the tire change, at 32,000 miles I had not experienced any front end wobble. The bike was incredibly smooth and steady at any speed.

Has anyone experienced this wobble with your 2018 or newer Wing?

I don't have a Wing but having that problem after a tire change would also tend to lead me to believe it was related to that and not something else that showed no signs prior to the tire change. Second opinion? I wouldn't think an out of balance tire (in the axis of rotation) would cause a wobble (perpendicular to the axis of rotation?) but I'm sure others will be along with better advice soon.

First, don't use that dealership anymore, they sound like idiots.
My money is on either the guy who mounted and so called balance the tires, didn't clean the rim before installing the new tire, and the tire didn't seat well on the rim.
This is a very common cause of what your feeling.
They usually give tire changing jobs to the new/young kids, and don't keep an eye on them.
I've seen tires leave dealerships with 12 weights on them, on one side, and even stacked on top of each other.
After removing all the wrong weights, breaking the bead, cleaning the rim, and installing the tire again, using the correct tire paste, and not windex or WD40 like cycle gear does, this tire only used 2 weights.
You may want to inspect the bead all the way around both sides of the tires and see if it looks straight to you.

Complain, complain, complain, do not accept a bull excuse. It's unsafe to ride now. If it didn't wobble with old tires why would it wobble wit new tires?

Take the bike elsewhere and get it refitted.
Do you have to remove anything else to change the tyre on a wing with its fancy suspension? Or have they anyway. I'd check all the connections are just so.
Is there anyone near you on the RAN list with a tyre machine?
Good luck.
Upt.

I have a 2018 DCT Tour with 107K miles and have had at least 6 sets of tires replaced and NEVER had a wobble. I agree with @Igofar that the tire was not installed correctly, or the tire itself is defective.
No, it is not likely the steering tie rod.

Is it a wobble or a bounce, not that it matters?

What tire brand/model? I've had a brand new Roadsmart in the early days that was terrible and would bounce - had a de laminated belt.

You have not felt a bounce until you have someone ride in who mounted and balanced their own tires using BALANCING BEADS, which turned out to be 7 pounds of number #6 lead shot!
He figured beads are beads right? Why not save some money?
Anything over 15 mph would bounce the front tire off the ground, with a loud swishing noise :rofl1:.
Completely shot blasted the powder coating off the rim.

Larry, not only did you get paid to fix the problem, but you also got lead shot for free. That stuff is expensive now!
