My 2006 has a clutch fluid drip from the lever on the handlebars. My first thought was to buy a master cylinder gasket/rebuild kit.
My question is should i rebuild or replace with a new master cylinder?

I'm leaning towards the rebuild since a piston set is $60 and a master is $388 at Rivzilla.

Thanks,
Ron

Most likely new seals will take care of the leak but there is no way to know that with absolute certainty until you open it up and see if there is damage on the inside that is beyond what new seals can take care of. Either way you have to remove the master cylinder so open it up and have a look first. If it needs to be replaced you are still in the same position other than the extra down-time due to having to wait to order parts after opening it up and inspecting it. The only way to avoid that extra down-time without disassembling and inspecting it first is to order a new one from the get go as you know that it will be good.

Rebuild. Very easy and it worked on mine although it was not leaking yet, I did it as preventative.

Throwing parts as a solution to a problem is always costly.
Why not find out what exactly the problem is first.
Besides, Ron called me earlier, and after 10 minutes on the phone, and a couple pictures via text, we have figured out the problem, and I'll be sending him the info on the parts needed to correct the problem.
I'll let him fill you in with what was found as the cause of the problem.

Igofar was amazing always! Drips of fluid where dripping from the hinge area of my clutch lever. Because of that location I thought the fluid would be coming from the piston area. But Larry knew of a scenario that would be more likely. He told me about the RAM ball cover and diaphragm. Larry asked for some pictures and that is when I noticed the front of the master clutch assembly was wet. Larry saved me labor time and money. I would have rebuilt the piston and would have still had the issue.

Thank you Larry!
