Hi Guys , newbie here. Cant really help as I have similar problem. Last year after helping marshall a charity cycle race when I attempted to start bike nothing. Saw that rear indicators and front side lights on. HISS light not blinking on my 2004 STX. Disconnected battery and it started but when the headlight was switched on bike died. After a few more incidents things got rougher. Was bamked over on a roundabout when it died again. After research saw the recall and brought it to Honda Dublin, Dave there a good guy. Fixed the recall part, no joy. After three days they contacted honda and Honda, fair play replaced entire loom. I was delighted. No more problems. They thought it was a matter of some coresion in some part of the loom. Happy days. Yesterday the same thing started. After a 400 mile spin parked up and the following day it turned over but the minute the headlight was switched on the thing died. Re set by disconnecting battery and again it died on the first roundabout, when banked. This time if you use indicators the bike will die. Have gotten onto Honda they are researching it at the moment but I have a bike that dies when you switch on headlights , indicators or on a long bank. Can anyone give me some ideas.

I think you might be looking at two unrelated problems.

For the stalling-on-bank problem, the first place to be looking is for a flaky bank angle sensor. You mentioned being leaned over in a roundabout both times. Does the same happen when leaned left? (Better, there's a procedure in the service manual for testing the sensor that doesn't involve getting losing power while leaned over.)

The problem with the lights is puzzling. What's the condition of your battery? Is it the original?

Doesn't matter which side I'm banked over on same result. Since the new loom was re fitted had no problem. Bank sensor not a problem. Replaced headlight after a muppet stopped at a wrong traffic light months ago but problem was apparent before that. It will run when indicator is switched on but when indicator is cancelled and switched to the other indicator engine dies. All obvious checked, new battery, all electrical connectors cleaned and checked, kill switch and side stand sensors, all to no avail. Have one suggestion that may be corrosion in sub loom in front left and right. But will have to bring to main dealer, 135 miles away to check that.
This is just making me mad, spent ?700 sorting it out and now its just I had a bike I could depend on and now I can't and thats not a great way to be.

I would assume that the dealer would have replaced / updated the common ground cap when he replaced the loom, however the symptoms sound like they could be a grounding ( earth ) problem. There was a recall for the 2004 models for a bad ground cap. You might want to assure that it has been done.

The 2004 problem with the grounding actually made the problem worse. Whatever the problem is fitting the recall part brought it to a head. When Honda showed me the olld part ( grounding point ) it showed no signs of corrosion.
