Hi All,
Riding home from work yesterday I noticed the high beam indicator on when i got home. I turned the bike off and massaged the left control wire harness and tested the lights. Everything was normal. Day 2 I rode to work and noticed indicator light on again. I turned off the bike and left it for the day. The return ride resulted with the same indicator light on but when i turned the key off the bike stopped running but the ignition circuit appeared to still be on. The lights and indicator remained on, neutral indicator still active, oil pressure light on. This is with the key off, out in my hand. the only way I was able to "turn it off" was to remove the battery connection. I heard a relay change state when the battery connection was broken. Whenni reconnected, it did not re-engage. But after turning ignition on the indicator light was still on and had the same problem with key switch.

I have handlebar risers and there had been a problem a year ago with smoke coming out if the left control wire harness and ocassionally blowing a fuse. When i released the tension on the harness and massaged wires around in the harness I was not able to duplicate the problem.

Related? Where should i look first? Left control harmess, Ignition switch, master relay (is there one).

Thanks for the help in advance!
Keith

Handle bar risers tend to stretch out / over extend the wiring harnesses that go to the bar controls.

You have a historic problem with the left side harness (you have seen smoke coming from it) so definitely look there first.

forget about massaging the harness, open it up and check the condition of the wiring. It is highly likely you have some damage.

Good luck.

Same symptom happen to me.
I cut open the left handle bar sheath that holds all the wires together and did not find any damaged wires.
Here is what worked for me.

There is a 24 pin (Ground Cap) plastic connector that brings all the ground wires together behind the right headlight. I had one of the connections in there that melted part of the 24 pin ground cap. I removed all of the ground wires and put eyelets on the wires, then used 2 brass bolts to join all the eyelets together.
There is a write up on here about attaching the eyelets, can't seem to find it.
Also routed a larger green wire to the bike frame from this bolted connection.
No problems since.
