Big Bend Bash STOC Event...ride report/photos
This past week, I headed for several destinations in far west Texas and some great riding. I headed first to Balmorhea State Park, Balmorhea, Texas. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/balmorhea/
I was meeting Texsota Pete (up from Kerrville, Tx). Pete and I wanted to visit Carlsbad Caverns http://www.nps.gov/cave/planyourvisit/cave_tours.htm prior to meeting the STOC event to Big Bend (Big Bend Bash). https://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52045
Day 1
I departed Richardson, Tx, using I20/"the slab" Tuesday morning. My trip from Richardson to Balmorhea is a long haul...and I wanted to get to the riding area...so slab it was. By 11 am it was already at 91 degrees F. The temps the rest of the day ranged from 91 to 97. It was really nice when I finally arrived at Balmorhea State Park. San Soloman Spring is the feature at the park, with a constant water temp of 76-78 year round...it was GREAT to set up camp and then plunge into the cool clear water. Balmorhea State Park is small and very user friendly. Great folks greated us at the check in. A true oasis in the very dry climate of far west Texas. Pete got to the camp site a bit late to make the plunge. The spring closes at about 7 pm....but so do the only two (well...the only two we noticed) eating establishments in the grand town of Balmorhea, Texas. A fine Mexican dinner was served up and it didn't take long, upon return to camp...to be sound asleep.
I'm going to post this trip using multiple posts. I've got lots of info and a ton of photos to share....so here's the shots from Balmorhea.
