While on the highway, down here in South Florida, I decided to “merge” onto the highway more quickly. I was only going ONE exit. I was riding with my son.
The NEXT DAY getting on the bike I saw my cowl was gone!!
It’s fallen off before, while also on the highway, so I “knew” what happened.
Me and a buddy drove back to the entrance and showered the shoulders. We ACTUALLY found it. And this is what it now looks like. 706D7B8E-6A47-419A-8F4B-8D0ECBE862B0.jpeg257AB4E1-2D51-4AD0-B829-7B8C9D03991D.jpeg75125796-B726-4F1B-B798-BB7C1E790EE2.jpegBC9954A0-C48D-4210-8B4C-C43BA1DE4BF7.jpegBF42D529-6593-46D5-92F7-9CF778029052.jpeg
These things are freakin’ tough!!!
I’ve since changed out the clips and added the clamps.

It also appears your missing the retaining strap (large zip tie) it rests sideways in the slot on the fairing, and screws into the mirror housing that you lost.

That’s the tether I was referring to. It literally broke. Just the screw and a piece of it we’re left.

I lost the RH one to a flying cooler lid on I-95. I had the unobtanium Honda wind deflectors that were a.) only sold as an 8 piece kit and b.) no longer available from Honda so like you I went back and walked the shoulder looking for it. The biggest piece of 2005 Candy Glory Red plastic would fit in a dress shirt pocket but it was attached to the wind deflector. The cover and turn signal was expensive though.

I assume, then, you repainted it to the much faster 2008 red color (?)

... cause 2005 is "Candy Graceful Red (marketed in the US as Candy Dark Red" : )
No repaint, original 2005.

Do I understand that the mirror housing fell of and you didn't notice until the next day?

Wouldn't it be obvious as soon as it happened?

YOU’D THINK SO!!! Lol
No, it was night time and I was going... fast...the first time it happened it was day time and I saw it immediately.

Those little spring clips are part of the fitting in that if they're not there something wrong. Kind of price for what they are but if they keep the mirror cover from popping off they've eliminated an annoyance.

The plastic tether/tie-wrap keeps them from going too far. But at speed I'd wonder about the trade off - potentially losing a cover forever or having it still attached and beating up the cowling 'till you noticed it. Checking the three brackets and clips are sorted should prevent all that.

Circle clips to be sure. Also I've seen many many ST where the bottom of the mirror cover isn't properly aligned and snapped in place. Once it's in correctly there's no way the wind is taking it off.

Why won't the wires to the bulb keep it from "getting in the wind?" It has for me, but this is on an 1100.

At highway speed a detached mirror cover just rips the running light/turn signal wires in two and pulls the plastic strap out of the hole in the fairing and disappears in the breeze. The plastic strap is only adequate for keeping the mirror cover attached to the bike when someone bumps into it or during a parking lot or slow speed drop.

Then again, mine was knocked off by a cooler lid lifted off the pavement by the car ahead of and one lane over from me. If it just "falls off" at 70 mph I'm not sure I want it flailing around still attached to the bike.

Its pretty difficult to snap in the indicator assembly with those clips already in place. I have left mine off. Think will put them back on again today.

I am finding it very difficult to pop them back in! Like I still have the right one off because on 2 separate occasions I have tried to put it on and can’t get it. :doh1:
