I fixed a riser to my handlebars, and I have to remove the handlebar covers because the key isn't long enough.

The stock steering stem nut is "uncovered" so when it rains, water goes into the steering stem and causes rust.

I'm looking for a "covered" nut from another bike that I can use to replace the stock nut. Does anyone know which part number will fit our bike?

Mine's an 02 ST11, international version, thanks.

i too have a bike that's been changed ni this mannor by the po. (i've had the bike for 5 years now) it never dawned to me that there was anything amiss. after looking around i now can see a bit of rust deep inside. since this winters project will be replacing the steeringhead bearing, i'll clean the rust out and probably bathe the effected area with penatrol. and cap with something home made. worse case i'd just silicone a cap in place, and just pry it off when/if i need to get back inside.

A cap from a Champagne bottle should fit nicely. :D

:bow1: I actually used a wine bottle cork. Really, water could enter the top of the hole even with the cover and blow up from the bottom. I don't believe any damage running the hole uncovered.

Looking at the instructions I received with my Heli-Bars, they state that the steering stem plug from a 1998 VFR800 will fit the ST1100 steering stem hole. Honda part No. 53232-MJ4-670. I didn't order one, but probably should have.

I have seen a chrome plumbing cap used in the hole as well as a black piece from a checker board to cover the hole.

Thanks very much everyone, but the prize goes to Toolpen. :D

I'm sure it fits many, many Hondas, but technically that part number relates to an early 1980s VF1000R. Honda uses the same part number on subsequent models unless it is re-designed. The steering stem's ID is also the same ID as a standard handlebar/clip-on, so most bar-end weights would fit. Finally, I believe Pro Bolt makes alloy closed stem nuts, and if you want to get all 1990s, so does the CBR1100XX Super Blackbird stem nut...

Ciao,

Oh, you mean that plug on mine isn't stock? Mine was a bit loose and I had it taped for a while, and then noticed someone had clear silicone RTVed it in place. I pulled that off and it fits a bit better.

Got mine back in 07 from Zanotti Motor Co. Part number 95020-11300. It is a polished chrome steering stem nut. Has been used on numerous Hondas throughout the years. Lists around $15, I paid $9.15.

Excellent find! Here is a pic of that part on CMS. (This is the new part number for 95020-113-00, which has been superseded, according to CMS.) Both part numbers are still showing at Zanotti Motor for about $10.50.

Ciao,
