Mike (Dorian) did an excellent write-up on the ST1300
Fairing Removal and gave me permission to post it here.
Thanks Mike!

Note: Since the site was down and links not working I attached the PDF files.

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

Excellent write up and pics. I will even be able to do it now. I know from what the manual has in it, I sure wasn't going to take a stab at it.

Thanks Mike for the instructions and Joe for the post.

Dear Riders

I just must say the same words as they are said before. Good work also for a guy in Switzerland.

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

Thanks to Mike for writing this up. I just zipped mine up from a week of farkling and service. These instructions are excellent!

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

yes , they are great ! Used the instructions to remowe left fairing in order to get to the QH and change the Power Outlet fuse. Take your time - it is still intimidating when all those bits and pieces are laying on the ground (preferably on some tarp)

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

THANKS MELLOW

this might come in handy for this HOT summer weather

I hear removing the lower cowling helps reduce the engine heat coming back on the rider

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

I printed it out and marked how many pushpins, screws, etc. went to each section. Made putting it back together much easier.

Re: ST1300 Fairing Removal

How are the trim clips (mentioned in the write up) removed? I assume these are the ones with the mushroom head? Do you lift up on the mushroom and then remove the clip or do you push the mushroom in and then remove the clip? Already figured out the push type (after breaking one)

TIA

Are there more than 2 types of plastic clips/pins on the 1300?

There are two basic times on the pre2008 models... one is the button/mushroom type where you pull the center out (there are two sizes of these) and the other is the push pin type where you push the center to release it and then using your fingernail or thin screwdriver wedge it out.

In 2008 they added a 3rd type that has a phillips screw head look to them and they sort of look like the push pins but act like the button type.. you unscrew them and then grab that unscrewed portion and pull.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, didn't want to break more trying to figure it out.

Thanks, didn't want to break more trying to figure it out.

It doesn't hurt to order some anyway... sooner or later, you probably will break one... I have a few loose ones handy just in case.

Re: ST1300-Fairing Removal

Wow. What a fabulous link for the step by step fairing removal! I still plan on getting a service manual for the bike, but this gets me moving forward in the interim with confidence. Thank you very much!

Re: ST1300-Fairing Removal

This is the info I used for my first tupperware removal. The only thing that's missing is the removal of the nose cone/headlight assy.

Thank you so much for these pictures and the great instructions. I probably wouldn't have had the nerve to take all the skins off without these great tips. Everything came off, then back on again in an afternoon. Not bad for a first time!! Thanks again, what a great informative site this is.

When removing the left mid fairing, if the Honda grip heater is installed with the control pad just below the left side glove box, there are three wires coming from the control unit that have individual disconnects covered by a rubber sleeve that looks enough like heat shrink tube to fool you into thinking you might have to cut the wires.

What size are the pushpins? I need to buy some more and Lowes and Ace stocks them. Thanks!
